A Few Words From Sophie Morgan, The Upton Upon Severn YFC Chairman 2018/19…

I have been a member of Young Farmers for 5 years now, having previously held the roles of Minutes Secretary, Stock Judging Coordinator & Vice Chairman.

My first involvement with Young Farmers was walking into the YFC tent at the Three Counties Show to look around, the next week I was at my first meeting!
I was never the most enthusiastic member, it took a while for my confidence to grow; that was until Rachel Gilder’s year, I was given the responsibility to organise competitions such as the Cube & Morris Dancing. I now really do believe that you get out of Young Farmers whatever you put in!

My favourite thing about Young Farmers is the new opportunities it can provide, anything from First Aid Training to Public Speaking or learning a Cheerleading routine and performing at the Three Counties Show – there really is something for everyone, you’ve just got to be willing to get involved.

Outside of Young Farmers you will usually find me surrounded by cows working alongside my dad on our Dairy Youngstock farm, which I was brought up on. This is where my passion for Stock Judging has developed from!

I am so excited to be Upton’s Chairman, I’d like every member to have their say and get involved this year. This is my turn to give back to the club all the fantastic opportunities and experiences that I’ve received during my years of membership. We have a very strong club and I promise that I will try my absolute best to ensure that Upton YFC has a brilliant year once again.

Bill Harber is the Upton Upon Severn Young Farmers President. Together with the Vice Presidents; Jenny Worthington, Dave Underwood & Rob Thatcher, and the support from the Advisory Committee, he aids Sophie in the overall running of the club. When not working on his own farm, Bill can be found at the sidelines of every competitions cheering the Upton members on.

Drawing on experience from his own Young Farmer days allows the club to move forward, with the Chairman’s vision, while maintaining the image and history of the Upton Upon Severn Club.
